Health

Greetings!

Welcome Middle School Students and Families!  Thank you for visiting the Health website.

Parents/Guardians: I hope your Middle School Student has already shared with you the signed letter and class expectations (most students have already returned this).  If you have not recieved this letter, feel free to contact me to get another copy.  I currently do not have it all in electronic format therefore I will need to send it home with your student.

2/8/2010- This week we are discovering what "health" is.  We are discussing the differences between physical, emotional, and social health and learning how to keep these areas healthy and BALANCED! To practice our knowledge we are creating health triangles that can be seen hanging from the ceiling in the health room.  Lastly we will cover what some potential health risks are by reading/acting out Payton's Day and discover all of the health risks he takes and demonstrate our knowledge by listing different health risks under four categories: behavioral, environmental, hereditary, and cultural.

2/17/2010- This week we continueing to talk about what a health risks is and how we can use our risks to create goals to enhance our health.  Students will spend the end of this week discussing what a goal is, practice writing goals for Payton that we read out last week, watch a video as motivation about setting a goal, and lastly write a goal for themselves and create benchmarks that will help them achieve these goals.

3/11/2010- Our current topic focus in health class is stress and emotions.  We explored several aspects of emotions such as why do we have them, what do they tell us, and what are appropriate ways to express how we feel.  We are currently making the connection between stress and emotions and talking about how certain emotions are linked to stress.  These emotions  include fear, anger, anxiety, grief, and relief and now we are practicing different ways to cope with each of these emotions.  Monday and Tuesday we will have a quiz on all of the information covered so far.  The students have a study packet with quiz questions in their binder to study from along with a set of flashcards.
