WELCOME!
High School Students and Families!
2/8/2010- Currently in physical education we are working in both the gym and in the Fitness Center. In the gym we are focusing on building a small community where all students can participate in activities and feel safe. In order to build this community we are doing a lot of Cooperative Games where the students may be acting silly, problem solving or developing trust. I believe that in order for physical education to be a place where students can learn and grow there needs to be a bond built between the group so students do not feel afraid to take risks and try new activities. In the Fitness Center we are becoming familiar with the equipment along with the class expectations for participation. Also this week we have begun our focus on learning different major muscles and exercises we can do for each muscle. Lastly, as a class the students have begun the Miles Mania Challenge. During this challenge we are keeping track of the miles biked, walked/ran, and performed on the elliptical as a class. We are still working on setting a goal amount for this challenge.
3/11/2010- We have just completed a mini Olympic Unit where we worked on cooperation, teamwork, and developing an understanding of the amount of work, time and effort olympians put into their event. We have just begun a basketball unit. We are going to work on different tactics involved in invasion games such as basketball. Some of the tactics we are going to work on are attacking the basket, defending the basket, maintaining possession, and creating space.
